The Lorax

While learning about text-to-world connections, we read the story 'The Lorax' and the boys and girls made connections to air pollution and global warming in our world.  We talked about the importance of saving our planet and being eco-friendly.  We all signed a pledge to promise to help our planet and keep it a nice place to live.  We even went out to collect garbage today!  We found a lot of waste in our school field...we need to remember to take care of our planet!

Making Connections

Good readers always make connections.  We learned about the different connections and this week we have learned the final connection, which is text-to-world connections.

There are different types of connections that we can make: text-to-self (relating the book to something that happened to you and your life experiences), text-to-text (relating to book to another book), and text-to-world (relating the book to something happening in the world).   Try to make connections when reading your books at home!

This week's poem is about love in the spirit of Valentine's Day on February 14th!  However, we should remember to show those around us that we love them every day :)

Ms. Stephanie did an art activity with us about what we love.  We wrote what or who we love on a heart and decorated it.  Then we all posted it on our Love Tree.  Here is the final product!

The weather is a bit unpredictable at the moment.  Always check the weather and dress for it!  Remember to wear your coats, boots, scarves, snowpants, and mittens!  A lot of us are forgetting to wear our snowpants at recess time, please wear them because it is cold outside!
